Coffee stencil magic in four easy moves
If you can pour milk, you can nail latte art. Watch the walkthrough below and follow the quick rundown to dust picture-perfect designs without any drama.
Here’s how we do it
Stick to these four steps and your stencil art will look pro every single time.
- 1
Prep your drink
Pull the shot, steam your milk, and finish with a dense, glossy foam. You want the surface sitting just under the rim so the stencil has a flat perch.
- 2
Set the stencil
Rest the stencil across the rim and hold it steady a whisper above the foam. Keep it level, mate. A wobble now will show up in the final design.
- 3
Dust the topping
Use a small sieve or shaker and tap a light shower of cocoa, cinnamon, or sugar through the cutout. Even coverage is the trick.
- 4
Lift and admire
Raise the stencil straight up, nice and slow. Move it away from the cup before you shake off any extra powder so the pattern stays sharp.
Make every pour a crowd-pleaser
A few simple tweaks take your stencil game from good to cracking.
- Good foam matters: Aim for silky microfoam with tiny bubbles. Give the jug a couple of taps on the bench to pop any big ones.
- Grab a sifter: A shaker or sieve spreads the powder evenly, which keeps the design crisp instead of blotchy.
- Easy does it: Light dusting only. Too much powder will sink into the foam and blur the artwork.
