About the material

316 stainless steel is the same grade used on boat fittings and coastal handrails. It resists rust and corrosion much better than standard 304 stainless, which is why we use it for memorial plaques that live outside. The surface has a brushed finish that reads clearly in the sun without harsh glare.

Coastal and salt water use

If you’re fixing the plaque anywhere near salt water, we strongly recommend sealing the edges and back with a clear marine grade sealant before it goes up. Salt air is hard on every metal, 316 included, and a fresh reseal every year or two will keep the plaque looking its best. Inland installs don’t need any extra sealing.

The 100 by 50mm version with pre-drilled holes takes standard screws or bolts, which works on timber benches, posts, and most tree mounts. The plain versions can be attached with an exterior grade adhesive like Sikaflex or a marine grade epoxy. If the plaque is going up near the coast, reseal the edges once it’s in place.

Will the engraving fade over time?
No. Laser engraving cuts into the metal itself, so the text is permanent. The stainless steel surface may develop a light patina after a few years outside, which most families are happy with on a memorial piece.
